Re: Dollar General To Open 800 Stores In 2024
I can't fully figure out their location strategy. I think they may look for post offices and decide if it is viable to build a store nearby. The location strategy is to look for population. I know of several spots not near anything of note, yet Dollar General is right there. A couple of stores near...

Re: Restaurant Designs of the Future
Chick-fil-a is coming out with a drive-thru/walk up restaurant with no dining room. Taco Bell is also coming out with a design with no dining room. Captain D's is doing a double drive-thru. The size of the restaurants are also shrinking. https://www.nrn.com/operations/9-prototypes-highlight-restaur...

Re: Dollar General To Open 800 Stores In 2024
I would love to see this chain disappear along with its "kin". It is the ever evolving descent into deep subpar retailing. The more one cannot afford to shop in others stores the poorer one gets and the more one perpetuates the decline in retail grocery. It has been called the "Walma...

Another part of that discussion by Todd Vasos includes a retreat on their Self Checkout policy. Evidently, it's not going as they planned. I have seen customers walk out of a Dollar General store because the regular checkout was not available, and they did not wish to check themselves out.

Re: Boston Market closes all Metro Detroit locations
I am very curious of your experiences in recent months with this TA Boston Market unit. Looking at recent photos from food in the Denton unit, it looks pretty legitimate Boston Market food (unlike what the corporate units have been serving for the past six months...). Did the food seem to be the sa...

Re: Boston Market closes all Metro Detroit locations
Their problems spread further than Metro Detroit... TA Petro opened two locations without much fanfare in late 2019 in Denton, TX and Lafayette, LA, replacing the Country Pride restaurants there. I frequent Lafayette, as it's around the corner from my office. Lafayette was the only one in Louisiana....

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
The larger issue is that in many areas, C and S is not a competitive chain. 4 stores in Utah, 66 stores in California, 26 stores in Texas, 2 in Louisiana, 2 in Montana...in these areas, this is not a viable chain unless they commit to opening more stores. Keep in mind that C&S is not truly a ch...

Re: Publix
Publix Stores do not appear to get the wear and tear of a Wal Mart or a Target type store (fewer giant groups of customers shopping there) and it is rare/unusual to see bashed up fixtures or falling apart counters etc. in their stores due to the this. I am wondering how often they replace refrigera...

Re: Walmart observations
I have observed that at the Walmarts here in Greensboro the in-store spaces vacated by McDonald's when they moved out have yet to be reoccupied by anything. It looks like some stores are using the space as a holding area for pickup orders or as general storage, but the walls do have "your stor...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: Midwest & Plains Impact
There is impact here. There is various Kroger-Jewel overlap outside Chicago. Neither brand appears to be doing very well in these markets (Hy Vee and Wal Mart seem to be beating them). Mariano's and Food 4 Less around Chicagoland have significant overlap with Jewel Osco. Mariano's and Jewel Osco bo...
