Hy-Vee is moving into Eau Claire by acquiring a vacant Kmart building. They only have 3 Wisconsin stores so far, all in the Madison area.
Eau Claire is 80 miles east of MSP, where Hy-Vee continues to expand.
Competition in Eau Claire is Wal-Mart, Target, Festival Foods (supplied by SVU), Woodman's (discount chain with Topco brands).
Once COVID-19 is over, the store will probably open.

Festival Foods will probably be the loser in this one. They are very average, at best, in every way.
Woodman's will continue to undercut everyone in price and Hy Vee typically does not involve itself in price wars. It will be interesting to see what adjustments Hy Vee makes to react to Woodman's. I think they will need to make some adjustments to pricing.

Woodman's stores are also known for being really large (200k+ sq. ft. stores), and that itself is a novelty that is both unique and difficult for competition to clone.storewanderer wrote: ↑April 15th, 2020, 11:16 pm Festival Foods will probably be the loser in this one. Woodman's has a fantastic mix of products. Center store seems like it never ends. Fresh departments are not their strong point.pseudo3d wrote: ↑May 1st, 2020, 1:29 amWoodman's stores are also known for being really large (200k+ sq. ft. stores), and that itself is a novelty that is both unique and difficult for competition to clone.storewanderer wrote: ↑April 15th, 2020, 11:16 pm Festival Foods will probably be the loser in this one.
