North Texas Kroger employees receive a raise under latest agreement

Post by SamSpade »

Apparently Kroger is the only North Texas grocer with a union.
https://www.dallasnews.com/business/ret ... -contract/

According to the last paragraph and indeed.com, worker pay at Kroger starts at $10-12 in the region. Oof.

(on a personal note, I didn't notice Dallas being any cheaper beyond some housing costs compared to the region where I live)

Fairly typical to the wages the UFCW has negotiated in AZ and Las Vegas as well. So this means Wal Mart and Target (and of course Costco) have better starting wages than many of the UFCW represented grocers. No wonder the grocers have trouble attracting and retaining good labor.

Dallas may not be much cheaper for consumable goods like groceries, etc. but where the real cost difference in Dallas comes in compared to say Seattle is on things like property tax, insurance, utilities, and similar.
