Stater Bros. new visual identity

Post by BreakingThrough »

Looks like Stater Bros. is on a chain-wide visual identity refresh, including a new logo that they describe as "retro modern."

I like this new logo, but I have to question what is the point of changing the logo? Is it really worth the cost?

It is tough to do a logo change across all of the buildings, items, signs, uniforms, receipts, labels, stickers in the stores, etc. When you are running two different logos, it looks sloppy.

Also there are a lot of stores with red logos out there. Fewer with blue logos. The blue Stater logo always stood out in a crowded field of red logos.

I agree. They could have integrated it into the new logo somehow. The old Font (the cooper black one)was definitely looking tired though.

Even better when the interior signs match the exterior.

I just saw a store using the new logo over the weekend. It looks great!

The reason is simple - they want to convey an image of a modern, up-to-date supermarket. The old word mark looked old and futsy. The blue ribbon looked out of date.

The new logo pays homage to the original logo . The original logo used the same basic font but with italics and was angled up:

Up until a few years ago, the Costa Mesa store sported the old logo on the building. I'd like to see the new logo on that store.

They've kept that original logo in their "blue ribbon" that's sometimes used as in place of the "O," and is often used in their ads. Image
