Ridgecrest Earthquake Retail Photos

Post by submariner »

Back-to-back Major Earthquakes hit Ridgecrest, CA (about 150 NE of Los Angeles) July 4th and 5th. Please use this thread to post images and videos of damage to retail locations.

From Thursday's 6.4, a Stater Bros. in Ridgecrest.

From Tonights 7.1, there are videos from a local Albertsons showing serious ceiling damage to the drop ceiling and no power.

The first earthquake was small in comparison to the second earthquake which was 7.1. It was over 11.2 times stronger as the first one and lasted 40 seconds. Victorville was an hour away, but I saw photos of many stores with items spilled on the floor. They say there will be aftershocks for years, assuming that a larger earthquake does not come first.

It was felt pretty strongly down here in L.A. but there hasn't been much if any damage. I was at a stop light waiting to turn in to a Vons parking lot and my SUV was rocking back and forth. By the time I got to Vons people were running outside.

I didn't see any damage inside the store. Just a lot of people with frazzled nerves.

I learned in Statistics that earthquake predictions are subjective. The 5 percent probability of a larger earthquake is just a guess. No one knows if a larger one is coming soon.

However, I would invest in earthquake insurance now and stock up on supplies before the stores are wiped clean or if a supermarket strike happens.

That aisle actually looks better than what I would have expected after a 7.1.

That Albertsons must be from whatever chain they bought in SoCal in the 70's was...

Looks nothing like an Albertsons in layout.
