Meridian is now Idaho's second largest city, and the state's hometown grocer is catching up on growth. Apparently Albertsons has been sitting on Eagle & Amity Rd. for some time.
After previous local resident pushback and stalled growth, new plans are filed and moving to Meridian City Council for a hearing.

Re: Albertsons growing in Treasure Valley
Kroger could have in the past 5-10 years built a few more Fred Meyers in Boise and effectively locked out Albertsons from doing these expansions. Another lost opportunity for the mysterious Kroger that for some reason does not like to build new stores on the west coast. But Boise isn't the west coast... building something in Boise would be similar to building something in Utah or Arizona where Kroger has put up a lot of new stores in the past 5 years... I guess Boise got the wrong side of the coin being in the Fred Meyer division.SamSpade wrote: ↑June 30th, 2019, 9:55 am Meridian is now Idaho's second largest city, and the state's hometown grocer is catching up on growth. Re: Albertsons growing in Treasure Valley
They've been slipping everywhere. In divisions like Houston, they started doing Kroger Marketplace stores around the time they started to get neck and neck with H-E-B but they have fallen behind, with H-E-B up by 5%.storewanderer wrote: ↑June 30th, 2019, 10:24 amKroger could have in the past 5-10 years built a few more Fred Meyers in Boise and effectively locked out Albertsons from doing these expansions. Re: Albertsons growing in Treasure Valley
I think it's more of Kroger being cautious. Especially with Fred Meyer's general merchandise side struggling and the shift to online shopping. Keep in mind Boise is Albertsons home turf and it's natural that they will have more Albertsons locations. Kroger might not be opening many stores, but (at least with Fred Meyer) is not closing many stores either, and is at least spending some cash keeping things updated and the stores they do have remain busy.storewanderer wrote: ↑June 30th, 2019, 10:24 am

I do see potential for areas west of Boise, not only Meridian, but also places like Ontario, Oregon as well as most of eastern Oregon which has virtually zero Fred Meyer presence despite the fact they started in Oregon.
