The Phoenix Business Journal reported that a Safeway-anchored shopping center has started construction at The Point at Eastmark in Mesa, AZ. It will be slightly smaller than the store that recently opened in San Tan Valley, AZ.

This property is a tight squeeze, but would likely be an excellent location for a two-level HEB. The existing Randalls store was originally opened by Safeway in the 70's before being converted to Appletree and then Randalls; it is definitely showing it's age and is drastically undersized for the amount of traffic it pulls.

Update on this Randalls: According to a Google photo from the past few days, a store closing sale has started at this location, but I cannot find any indication of a closing date yet. I'm curious if HEB will be ready to go on demolition/construction as soon as this store closes, or if there will be a lull period of 6 months to a year or so for design and permitting.

The Lake Austin/Exposition store closed at the end of August. Crews have been removing fixtures before it gets demolished next month. The 2-story H-E-B replacing it will be massive, taking up the entire lot, with underground parking.

Meanwhile, the other Randalls on Exposition is in the final phases of a Colorful Lifestyle remodel. The store, as others have noted, is tiny, coming in at around 20,000 square feet. New paint, faux wood flooring in the perimeter, upgraded floral and deli fixtures, four self-checkout stands and (soon) a sushi counter have been added.
