Walmart says it will be 2 to 3 weeks before plexiglass is installed at their front checkouts. The pharmacies are getting them right now, but the front registers will take longer. Walmart needs to speed it up. The most crowded place right now is Walmart.

I heard the plexiglass installers talking at the local Walmart and it seemed like they were from Arkansas. Walmart cannot just wait for some people from Arkansas to handle the installations for the entire country. They need to contact local companies and have the plexiglass installed now.

Raleys has "folding" plastic barriers, 2 on each checkstand, in a |___| type shape. They seem to already have these at every store location. The pinpad is placed between the two barriers. This seems to be really good. It protects the employees from direct and "angled" customer air. These just sit right on top of the checkstand, they are not bolted in or otherwise so that is another plus because it makes for easy cleaning and the ability to move them around as need be (move to other parts of the store if not all checkstands are in use or something).

Safeway does not yet have barriers up in every store, but some have them.

I saw the plexiglass barriers on just a couple checkstands at a San Francisco Bay Area Walmart. The glass only covered a small area around the computer monitor. It was largely useless. It did not cover the area with the credit card reader where most people stand. The design of the checkstand is bad. The credit card reader should be moved out of the way so you can have a longer sheet of plexiglass to provide protection.
