Rite Aid Liquor Store

I noticed in Westminster, MD a Rite Aid Liquor Store. It was clearly an old strip mall Rite Aid converted into a liquor only store. It had a Wellness interior. Very strange. Are there more of these or is this a one off?

Their ad looked very similar to the old Denver Keg Liquors ad (but Keg was just attached to a regular Rite Aid, since sold to Walgreens).

Is there still a Rite Aid next door or just a standalone store operated by Rite Aid? Liquor has been sold out in the open in the Washington state Rite Aid stores since the state run liquor stores went away. So this isn't really unusual unless it is a liquor only store.

There was a regular Rite Aid across the street that looked to be about 20 years old (diamond windows, etc.).

The liquor store was clearly the former strip mall Rite Aid. You could see where the pharmacy had been. It was now a walk in beer cooler.

Maybe something in their rules (no clue was they are in MD, but some states can have odd things in there) or possibly something in their lease that would keep others in that plaza from getting permission to sell liquor items (which they might want to keep to prevent competition for their newer store)?

It does seem strange, having not seen something like that elsewhere (of course it wouldn't be as likely here with the limits on what stores can sell, just beer and similar not wine and liquor).

Looks like this answers the question:
