I guess additional closures announced 1/28
And with Sacramento closing, likely the last time I will be in a Sears was the last time I went there.

Lots of speculation but these closures come straight from the Sears hiring site as they are hiring for the closing sales.
This is probably not a complete list of what they announced.

Kmart:
Long Beach, CA
Bellevue, NJ

Sears:
Los Angeles, CA
Clovis, CA
Orange, CA
Sacramento, CA (wow- Arden Mall is screwed)
Hilo, HI
Aiea, HI
North Attleborough, MA
Silver Springs, MD
Mesquite, TX

So with this latest round of closures, what will be the store counts for Sears and K-Mart respectively?

I think we are looking at about 25 Kmarts and 40 full size Sears after this... how it makes any sense to proceed like this... I do not know.

Of the Kmarts 2 are in Puerto Rico, 4 in the Virgin Islands, and the 1 in Guam.

Is the LA listing for the Boyle location (that is in a building that once did mail order dating back to 1927)?

Yes, it is that one. Big abandoned looking building. I suspect much of that building has been vacant for many years.

Kmart and Sears remind me of an old mercury vapor light bulb that has been in use for 20 years which has not completely burned out but is very dim and long past its usefulness.

I suspect Keith Richards will be shopping at Sears/Kmart long after we are long gone.

I am surprised to see how many Sears are still open in Southern California. I see there is even still a Sears Grand in Rancho Cucamonga which if anyone wants to go check it out it is open from 11 AM to 6 PM daily.
That may have been one of the last new build stores of Sears opened in 2004:

I notice the Sears at the Florida Mall in Orlando is still open. I wonder what that store looks like now? The pictures on Google are 2-3 years old but even at that the product selection looks a lot larger and the displays and signage more vibrant than my local store looked like, even back then.

Makes sense, as they stopped with the catalog some time back, and that would have been one main function of the building. It was also offices for the territory but that had moved out back in the 1980's as well (to the "Cube", when the company still had territories).
