Nordstrom Paying For Police Protection

Post by Alpha8472 »

Organized crime is causing massive grab and run problems in the affluent suburb of Walnut Creek, California. The once low crime ritzy shopping destination has been overrun by organized theft rings. The Nordstrom store has struck a deal to pay for police officers' overtime. Armed police shall be present at all times to stop the organized looters. This city was the scene of thousands of looters ransacking the shops of downtown and the high end outdoor mall Broadway Plaza in 2020. The Neiman Marcus recently closed down due to theft. The Nordstrom store fearing for its life has made this deal to survive.

The Apple store made a deal for 24 hour Police protection and it has been working really well against theft. It is a small price to pay to keep customers feeling safe and stopping the organized crime rings. Walnut Creek Police were caught off guard during the first few days of the 2020 riots. However, the Police armed themselves more heavily and brought in tear gas on a large scale. The looters were no match for them the second time around.

San Francisco would not be able to implement this as the city is short on police.

They could do the same with other people (say, hire those who have retired from a police force but still want to work on a part time basis), rather than paying active police if the department is unable to provide such.

The problem is that private security is not much of a deterrent. The criminals are only afraid of the Police who can immediately arrest them. The private security are less likely to be able to arrest people and put them in a police car right away.

You need a police car or two parked outside 24 hours a day.

The Apple store in Portland used to pay for police officers to stand by the door. But having a tall metal fence with only a side door works wonders. https://images.app.goo.gl/E3hz7vMTXDgkP9Q2A

A tall metal fence might help with shoplifting, but there are other problems that require armed police. People need to feel secure about shopping. The fence makes me wary of going into this store. It is like a prison.

The fence will not help if a deranged homeless person walks into the store carrying a machete. Yes, slashing attacks have happened. Customers want an armed police officer who can defend customers from the out of control people who can walk right in.
