Slowly but surely, the Stripes name is disappearing. They still run promotions exclusive to the brand, but the programs seem to be converting to 7-Eleven (there's a new coffee machine that operates by touch controls, for instance, that is all 7-Eleven's), and I'll have to see if they still have some of the Stripes coffee brands like Café Canela (that 7-Eleven does not have). They did convert a Rattlers (a local convenience store that got bought by Stripes but never rebranded) to 7-Eleven, but they still seem to have Stripes' programs.jamcool wrote: ↑December 6th, 2020, 2:59 pm The question is does 7-11 keep the Speedway name? They still have Stripes in Texas. And they are selling off over 300 stores ( the Fed Govt may require more sold), which someone like EG Group would be interested in along with Yesway, GPM (fast market) or Parkland which is buying smaller fuel distributors/convenience chains in the West

Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)
I expect 7-Eleven to handle those the same way they handled the majority of the former Valero Corner Stores they bought in CA: they either sold them off or they are subleasing the spaces to independent operators with a fuel supply agreement through SEI Fuels (usually 76 branded- a few are still Valero) and a generic c-store offering that is supplied by 7-Eleven's supply chain agreements. So basically you have a 7-Eleven site but no branding and no promotions.Alpha8472 wrote: ↑December 6th, 2020, 4:23 pm Some of those Speedway Express locations are too small to become 7-Eleven stores. Some were formerly USA Gas and only have a cashier booth instead of a convenience store. Those need to be sold off as they cannot build convenience stores on such small parcels.

Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)
EG Group- at least the Quik Stop Stores- is a disaster. The condition of the locations keeps getting worse and worse. They have not done anything to the pumps to get them to accept EMV- same old card readers on the 15 year old pumps that were there 20 years ago. Kroger was actually putting EMV Readers on some of the pumps when they still owned the stores then that project stopped when EG Group took over. They have fixed all of the busted price signs which were busted for months, so there is that I guess. At the one in Reno on Mill Street, there is graffiti on the pumps that has been there for literally 5 months. I know they are seeing it, because the pumps do print receipts, so they are obviously going out there to put paper into the pumps. The lot is filthy, has not been power washed probably since Kroger owned it, the store is dirty and messy, last time I fueled there, someone was parked at one of the pumps and came over and was trying to sell me stuff out of his car- he was approaching each customer as they were buying fuel. Really awful operation.jamcool wrote: ↑December 6th, 2020, 2:59 pm The question is does 7-11 keep the Speedway name? They still have Stripes in Texas. I was kind of hoping EG Group would buy Speedway and then have Speedway be its main base of operations in the US. Speedway is well run and could have been a great platform for EG Group to put its other US banners under and have a consistent, streamlined operation. EG Group's current platform seems to be a disaster. I thought they would put everything under Cumberland Farms and run it consistently, but that does not seem to be happening as of yet. At least not at Quik Stop.

That's an interesting location for a new Speedway.storewanderer wrote: ↑December 5th, 2020, 12:29 am Speedway appears to have opened or be about to open a new build site in Mesa, AZ at 7405 East Main Street. Kind of an odd location to pick to enter a market, near one of the few (only?) metro Phoenix Dollar General locations... but it doesn't appear to have much competition... looks like the lot was at one time a gas station but long-vacant...
This is interesting as it would mark the first (and probably will be the only only) Speedway location in metro Phoenix. It would also be the first full new build Speedway site on the west coast. Right before Speedway ends up sold off.
Their other "new build" in the west, in Irvine, CA, is a heavy re-hab of an older gas station. I understand the store is a new building.
However, Speedway stations are very common throughout the rest of the state (former Western Refining (GIANT) stations) so it's not that surprising that they tried to make a run in metro Phoenix. However, Phoenix is Circle K and QT territory.
Not to get too OT but there are at least 15 - 20 Dollar General locations throughout metro Phoenix. They aren't as common as Family Dollar (or Dollar Tree) but they do have decent market penetration.

Does that brew the coffee one cup at a time, with 3 "hoppers" of different beans on top?
One of the Speedway stores locally has that type (one where they recently removed the Dunkin branded items from the old Hess contract) so, even though that purchase isn't final, it might be sensible that some things are being brought in when the immediate need is there.

Looking at the overhead view of this 7405 East Main Street in Mesa, it appears to be it is a former Arco site that has long been demolished. This entire area looks like it has lost a lot of businesses over the years for some reason.arizonaguy wrote: ↑December 7th, 2020, 8:10 amThat's an interesting location for a new Speedway.storewanderer wrote: ↑December 5th, 2020, 12:29 am Speedway appears to have opened or be about to open a new build site in Mesa, AZ at 7405 East Main Street. Not sure why I thought the only Dollar General was out there...

Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)
That's correct. There's a little 7-Eleven logo on the machines' screen, too. One does the basic coffee (decaf, Colombian, house blend, plus iced versions) and the other does more "specialty" coffees (Americano, Latte, double espresso, etc.). The "regular" coffee tanks still seem to be on the Stripes program--they have four coffee types (House Blend, Decaf, Café Canela, and Dark Roast. Café Canela is a flavored coffee with "a bit of warm cinnamon and vanilla", and all the cups are of Stripes' design (currently a burgundy color).BillyGr wrote: ↑December 7th, 2020, 5:16 pmDoes that brew the coffee one cup at a time, with 3 "hoppers" of different beans on top?

Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)
Most of the AM-PM sites, and the handful of 7-11 stores in PHX are dumps. The only major c-store competitor to Circle K and QT is locally based Four Sons, its stores are primarily along the PHX freeway system, as far east as Apache Jct. They all sell Chevron gas, and many have extras such as pizzerias and "growler" stations (filling beer jugs) with craft beers which change monthly. I am surprised 4 Sons hasn't been acquired by ExtraMile or Yesway.

I never think of 4 Sons as they tend to be about 30 cents a gallon higher priced for gas than their nearby competitors. There's another local chain Superpumper (currently rebranding as SP Market) which sells Shell gas and also is about 30 cents a gallon higher gas priced than competitors.jamcool wrote: ↑December 8th, 2020, 9:54 am Most of the AM-PM sites, and the handful of 7-11 stores in PHX are dumps. Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)
Jacksons also has about a dozen stores around metro Phoenix, all appear to be car wash locations with it appears Shell branded fuel. I wonder if Jacksons supplies those things out of their Idaho distribution- probably the only place in AZ that would sell Dairigold Milk and Franz Bread if so.arizonaguy wrote: ↑December 8th, 2020, 2:01 pmI never think of 4 Sons as they tend to be about 30 cents a gallon higher priced for gas than their nearby competitors. 4 Sons probably does well with those who want to purchase the Chevron branded fuel. Chevron is a very strong brand, in the west.
