Regis Salons, which apparently owns several branded salons including:
Supercuts, SmartStyle, Cost Cutters, First Choice Haircutters and Roosters
is moving its main salon brand to a franchise-based model and unloading company owned stores after continued profitability issues.

It could be, they have too many locations. Near me they have a Supercuts (franchise) and a Smart Style in Wal Mart (corporate op) site in the same parking lot. They renovated the Smart Style when the Wal Mart remodeled a year or two ago but it seems the same inside as it was before (but it got new flooring, counters, etc.).

The Smart Style is never busy.

They also had a Smart Style in a busier Wal Mart and that Smart Style was always very busy with many employees and lots of foot traffic. It closed early this year for some unknown reason. I wondered what was going on there, but now it makes more sense. They are probably offloading locations as leases end.
