Anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 1/2 hours early. These aren't the odd locations, some are in prime locations near main roads. I get when they might close early for weather etc. But the ones I have seen had no obvious reason for closing early. A store like Subway should still be open at 8:30 PM. Especially when the posted closing time is 10 PM.

The inconsistency of this chain really is out of hand.
So far this year in Reno/Sparks, Subway has closed some locations. I can think of 5 locations offhand that have closed since the beginning of the year. These locations are of at least 3 different franchisees.

There are a couple others that closed then reopened under new ownership.

I do notice they send coupons out in the mail every week or two now. But some locations do not honor the coupons (some of those have closed...).
I was actually talking about still-operating locations closing for the day earlier than their posted closing time with no explanation.

With that said, I have noticed a handful of locations closing with no replacement recently, and have to wonder if some of these locations disregarding their posted hours are on the edge.

I have had 4 Subways close near me and several were closing early also. The business model must be bad. Why stay open when no one comes to the restaurant?

I was lured into a Subway recently due to a 2.99 6 inch sub promotional sign on the window and what looked like a nice store with a large space and a good trickle of customers going in and out.

I went in and observed only one employee working. But inside looked clean enough (tables weren't visibly dirty, drink area organized, etc.). The prep area was a mess. Overflowing trash can, trash all over the floor. When I got into the line, the employee was cashiering. I noticed the prep glass was really foggy looking. He finished cashiering and quickly went to the sink and basically rinsed his hands, may or may not have used soap (there may or may not have been soap). I was about to leave, but I stayed. He then took sub wrapping papers and dried his hands. Upon further examination, I noticed much of what was on the floor was those sub wrapping papers. Upon further examination, I noticed the paper towel dispenser above the sink he was using was empty. At this point I decided to leave the location. I bought food elsewhere in the same center and walked back past the Subway 20 minutes later. Again just one employee working with a few people in line.

These stores are often run by people who have limited experience running restaurants. Either the owner is going cheap by not ordering enough supplies or poor training. Subway lets each individual store run the day to day operations with not enough supervision. Theses stores are understaffed and it turns off many customers. The standards need to be higher, and Subway needs to get things under better control if they want to survive.
