The state of California is banning latex gloves in restaurants as of January 1, 2020.

The latex allergy problem has been growing. Latex allergies can be caused by exposure to products containing latex. It is estimated that 34% of children who have more than 3 surgical procedures have latex allergies.

I used to work at a hospital, and I did not have latex allergies at all. Then over time I acquired the allergy, and it just got worse and worse. The hospital at the time used so much powdered latex, that it was unavoidable. I ended up having to leave the job, and I can never work in a hospital again.

I can see that this might cost restaurants more, but non latex gloves are not that much more expensive.

I have not noticed latex gloves used for food preparation. I have noticed them used mainly for cleaning.

There is definitely something weird with that latex powder...

Also wondering if the changes in what country the latex comes from in the past 30 years has sparked some of this.
