Amazon- Amazon Delivery Van

Typically when I have ordered from Amazon, the items come through one of the usual carriers. Boxes are usually filthy dirty and look like they've been through it. Orders always take over a week (I don't have Prime), sometimes close to 2 weeks, to arrive. Items typically arrive in rough shape, not packaged particularly well; one time I got a padded envelope that appeared to have been run over by a tire, etc. I had done a lot of returns to Amazon, due to receiving damaged items. Sometimes they don't even want the item back; frankly I love to send them the damaged item back, in the same messed up package it came to me in, to show them what a joke the shipping was.

For the first time ever this week I had one item in an order which was delivered by Amazon in an Amazon delivery van. The first thing was I made the order really late one night, and the status went to in transit almost immediately. I thought that was odd, as that had never happened before. The item was delivered to me one day later. Upon delivery I received an email immediately showing me the item had been delivered as well as a photo showing where they had put the delivery... again, have not seen that before. The box is clean, in perfect condition, contents undamaged.

If Amazon can run its own freight service, handle the packages properly and in a more efficient manner, I am all for them expanding their freight service. I know this was only one experience but this was a real positive.

Perhaps a fulfillment center has finally opened near you. They did just open a large one in Nampa, Idaho.

They have a warehouse of some kind in Reno that opened somewhat recently, but they have had warehouse presence here for a couple decades now, previously the warehouse was out in Fernley which opened in 1999. But I guess a warehouse is different than a fulfillment center?

They've been dot this is Portland for the last several years. Over the past year they have replaced their regular vans with UPS like depot trucks. Very little is shipped via contract drivers in their own cars or via UPS/USPS. I understand that Amazon now has a larger capacity than Fedex and will overtake UPS later this year. They are serious about building their fulfillment capabilities

Almost all of my Amazon orders in Phoenix have been like this for the last 2 years or so. My next door neighbor drives for Amazon and has a route for them. I believe most major markets have this setup.

Interesting. Another order pending also shows as being shipped by Amazon.

I hope their execution with this remains strong.

So do they literally just base this on the territory the order is going to? I've had Amazon orders in the past fulfilled from all over the US... I can't tell where these orders are being fulfilled from.

These vans have been used in SoCal for at least the last couple of years,

Amazon just built a couple of warehouses out in Stead (instead of what?) and one of them is a delivery point. If you drive 395 north towards Susanville, you can see the delivery point with all the vans out front.

Less than five minutes ago, UPS delivered an Amazon order that was fulfilled in North Las Vegas, NV. Saturday I received another Amazon package that was delivered by UPS. Didn't notice the fulfillment site before putting it in the recycle bin.
