Walmart still considering South Africa acquisition

Post by krogerclerk »

Walmart is still eyeing South African retailer Massmart which is unionized unlike any other Walmart operation. Also Massmart's hypermarkets carry deeper lines in home improvement leading to speculation that the chain is considering taking on Home Depot and Lowe's in the home improvement segment, beyond the current offerings, a move which they attempted previously.

Why? Walmart hasn't had much success outside North and South America. Europe was a disaster for them. Focus closer to home as they still have lots of growth available to them without blowing some more money elsewhere.

Old post - Seems like Walmart has held on to Massmart for a while. Don't know if this is a sink, though.
