Only four locations, looks like, and none of them in particularly good shape for two to close and one to get rebuilt as a Publix. Only one will actually continue to be a grocery store, with Greenwise going in instead.

Western Market has three locations. One location is closing outright as it is being redeveloped into a mixed use development.

The affeceted locations being acquired by Publix Super Markets:
  • (Mountain Brook) 1000 Jemison Lane, Birmingham (Jefferson County), Alabama 35223-1001
  • Rocky Ridge Square, 3350 Morgan Drive, Vestavia Hills (Jefferson County), Alabama 35216-3052
The Mountain Brook location will become a GreenWise Market. It will be the first GreenWise Market location in Alabama and the seventh GreenWise Market location company-wide. GreenWise Market should open between July and September.

The Rocky Ridge Square location was initially Winn-Dixie. (Winn-DIxie replaced its Rocky Ridge Square location with a Winn-DIxie Marketplace store at 1300 Montgomery Highway, Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216-2702. WInn-Dixie Marketplace was replaced by Walmart Neighborhood Market #4580.) Publix Super Markets will demolish Western Market and the adjacent former Rocky Ridge Drug Company for a 35,000-square-foot Publix supermarket with food and pharmacy.

It's not unusual for Publix to tear down stores and build new ones and sometimes, they are close in size to the ones they demolish--there were several A&Ps in the Atlanta area like this and the stores were not especially old (probably less than 20 years old) and often newer than stores that they kept intact.
