Ralphs San Juan Capistrano Closing. Target to Replace.

Owner of property claims he gave Ralphs the opportunity to renew. They declined.

This must will be a tiny Target store. Does the city have a full sized Target store?

Are there other full sized grocery stores nearby? A small format Target will have limited groceries. I saw one in Berkeley, California and it was convenience store sized.

It looks like the store is pretty small and would have been due for a remodel.

Target is probably willing to pay more rent especially with bringing in CVS which will generate a lot in itself.

South County's last remaining Vons is nearby this Ralphs... who would've thought that Vons would've prevailed?

That said, I find it surprising Ralphs would close a store in South County, and even more surprising that Target keeps opening small format stores in all the locations Ralphs is abandoning (in SoCal)...

I have been in the Target Express in San Diego. They did a surprisingly good job of offering just a little bit of most of everything from the traditional Target departments in a store that was originally a Marina Safeway. It was bright, clean and did not feel cluttered. There was a decent food selection, decent electronics selection, sundries, a curated selection of housewares, and a curated selection of clothes. I thought the format has potential.

No, they stayed very true to the original Marina-style motif:
