Dark Kitchens Becoming Common

Post by Alpha8472 »

Many restaurants are opening up as dark kitchens. These restaurants have no dining room and often only have pick up. There are many Uber Eats, Doordash, delivery service only locations. Chick-fil-a and Wendy's are talking about opening dark kitchens. Wendy's says they plan to use dark kitchens in high delivery areas and also in regions where the chain has not yet opened due to high real estate costs.

Chick-fil-a has partnered with leading ghost kitchen brand Kitchen United to do delivery out of a shared commercial kitchen.

You will be able to get Chick-fil-a where there are no Chick-fil-a restaurants. The cost savings of not have to run a full size restaurant are intriguing. Customers are willing to pay a premium for delivery of Chick-fil-a.

Here is an article from Portland, Ore. alt-weekly Willamette Week that goes into more depth about the concept.
The results weren't very exciting, then again, many people would feel that way about Wendy's (and maybe Chick-fil-A).

Seems like a natural concept for pizza delivery as there are many locations of large chains that are delivery/pick-up only already.
