Target said Monday it has begun recruiting hourly workers for its first 24 stores in Canada, which are scheduled to open in March and April of 2013.
Target, which plans to open about 130 stores in Canada through the previously reported acquisition of Zellers locations, said it is already hiring store leadership positions and would focus on hourly personnel. Each store will employ 150 to 200 people. Target said it was looking specifically for sales floor, front end, asset protection, facilities management and human resources positions.
The company is also seeking pharmacy franchise owners to own and operate pharmacy businesses within as many stores as possible.
What is interesting about this is that the pharmacies inside of Canadian Target stores will be owned and operated as franchises. What this means is that the pharmacies are not owned by Target. It is sort of like having mom and pop owned independent pharmacies setting up shop inside of Target stores. This is quite a change from the corporate chains that have taken over the US. Independent pharmacies are dying out in the US.
