Albertsons Cos adding another house brand (wine)
Either the Signature Reserve wines are selling well or terribly...
Albertsons Companies announced today the introduction of Kalyana sustainable wines
I did see this on the Instagram accounts for Albertsons and Safeway stores today. It wasn't noted as a 'house' brand, though.
Edit: The language on Instagram does say 'our new line' so I see how that might be an interpretation the brand is only available from Albertsons Co's.

Years ago, Albertsons had a store brand wine called "Q". I doubt that would sell well today... for reasons I'm not going to talk about.SamSpade wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 1:45 pm Either the Signature Reserve wines are selling well or terribly...

Signature Reserve brand is largely failing. Perhaps they can turn it around but so far this brand is not catching on in any category.

They also have O Organics wine. Always fully stocked on the shelf...and dusty.

The Signature brand is so tarnished now. You think of it as the low quality cheap brand sold only at Safeway.
They need a new name and totally new advertising.
O Organics is seen as an expensive healthier for you brand that is terrible tasting. When you hear organic, you think dirt and soil. You do not want to drink wine that tastes like dirt.

Albertsons probably needs to re-work their entire private label line. The line is a mess. The expansion of the mix to bring in the old Supervalu sizes (such as bringing back things like 16oz Brown Sugar/Powder Sugar which Safeway had long discontinued to force the customer to buy a 32oz, or add in things like flavored 1 L Seltzer water, or add in numerous items to drug) never seems to have worked out too well. The line frequently continues to be priced higher than name brands. Safeway's old private label line had a couple big problems: first it was often priced higher than name brands. Second it was once in a while (and once was too many times) the only choice in categories which annoyed customers. I often find these Signature private label items short dated or expired even in relatively busy stores.Alpha8472 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 9:05 pm The Signature brand is so tarnished now. There are some bright spots in the private label line (all old Safeway Select items or Refreshe or Lucerne) but the average customer is just looking at all these items in the Signature Select label and has no clue which frozen pizza was the old premium quality one (and is still great), which salsa is the old premium quality one, etc.

Maybe they should start using the Albertsons name on store brand products again, like Kroger using their name on everything. It probably wouldn't make much of a difference at this point. The Select name should just be used on high-end products, as it was originally intended. They should also get rid of Value Corner.storewanderer wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 11:07 pm Albertsons probably needs to re-work their entire private label line. The line is a mess.
As for the logo, they could probably use the standard Albertsons logo, or the script Albertson's (with apostrophe) logo from the late 90's/early 2000's. The script logo was still used on water until 2016 or so.

They probably should have made a deal with Supervalu to get Essential Everyday/Equaline back. They could have brought in the old Select for premium items only, along with Lucerne, O Organics, Open Nature.retailfanmitchell019 wrote: ↑April 21st, 2021, 10:20 amMaybe they should start using the Albertsons name on store brand products again, like Kroger using their name on everything. The biggest mistake they made so far was using the "Select" name on everything. Safeway's old Select line was very carefully developed, a high quality line, and did mean something to long-term Safeway customers in the West.

The problem is that shoppers at Jewel, Star, and Acme would wonder what the Hell is "Albertsons Brand"
