Whole Foods Buying 6 Dominick's Stores

Post by Alpha8472 »

Whole Foods is buying 6 Dominick's stores from Safeway. Jewel may buy as many as 16 Dominick's stores.

Albertsons, LLC's Jewel chain is now in control of most of the supermarkets in the Chicago area. Albertsons, LLC seems like they are in a very good position in the Chicago area since almost everyone will now have to shop at Jewel.

Wow, Jewel getting 16 more stores in the Chicago area would definitely put them in a good position to be the most powerful chain there.

Do you have link to a news article or something else for this?

Is it just me or has nothing happened beyond Jewel getting its first 4 stores and Roundys buying a small group for Marianos?

Also Safeway continues to operate 7 Dominicks locations as normal for some reason.

Jewel already got the 4 high traffic locations. I think that they are probably waiting for the price of the real estate to go down. Once these locations sit empty for months, the real estate companies will lower their prices and then Jewel can get a bargain on those locations. You don't want to be locked into a high priced lease right away. Wait until the prices go down and then move in.
