Here's a fun wrinkle in the Village Super Market story in NYC. They just opened on Friday a new two-story Gourmet Garage supermarket in the West Village of Manhattan, and interestingly enough, some of the departments (coffee, for instance) are Fairway-branded. Since this Gourmet Garage is larger and more mainstream (it looks like) than the other Gourmet Garage stores, I really have to wonder why it wasn't just branded Fairway. They've owned the Fairway name for almost two years now, so it's not a timing issue...

Not a cooperative, but I thought this article was worth sharing. Fascinating read about the struggle for control over Western Beef in NYC. There have been some very strange choices made lately, but this explains a lot of it.
