Dollar General "Market" format

Post by storewanderer »

Anyone know about what is happening with this format? It looks like Dollar General isn't really supporting this format anymore.

I went into a store this weekend. They still have a nice looking ad circular for Dollar General Market California Locations. About 35% of the grocery SKUs were out of stock. Many more were very short stocked. They used to have large shelf labels (looked sort of like a Costco or Sam's Club shelf label) on the grocery side but now they have just standard shelf labels. They had signs up promoting certain meat/produce items that were obviously store made on Microsoft Word or something in an assortment of fonts depending on the sign and should have been corporate produced since these were all items in the ad anyway. The meat and produce looked fine (all prepack meat).

They have had commercials on their in-store radio fairly recently about this Market type store, even though I don't know of any of them in the area. Not sure why they did that.
