Apparently a Boise Albertsons is testing a full self checkout model. They use different types of register counters and the cashiers transition to assisting/supervision.
I will give them a bit of credit for this - at least they are testing it in the corporate office backyard so that executives visiting the stores can get real feedback from customers unfiltered. And they didn't just plop the test into a market where it might be skewed towards young, tech savvy shoppers who would be more apt to do this in an effort to get their successful test results and expand further.
