Albertsons closing 2 Seattle area stores

Polusbo and Mercer Island are both closing.

A new Safeway opened near Poulsbo.

Mercer Island appears to be getting some kind of redevelopment that will bring a new grocer. I am a little surprised to see Mercer Island closing; it was a nice store and above average for Albertsons. It had a great Kosher bakery, larger deli than typical (had a salad bar), and generally seemed like a good looking store. I thought it was nicer than the two small QFCs on Mercer Island which were not so impressive but probably doing similar or more volume in less than half the floor space of the Albertsons.

Poulsbo isn't surprising. Last time I was there it was still suck in blue & grey... with the independent Central Market nearby, and Safeway nearby, it didn't fit the demographics anymore.

Mercer Island was a surprise. Evidently the store's 30 year lease is up and Albertson's isn't willing to pay the new higher rent.

The Mill Creek Safeway is also closing (across from Fred Meyer). I thought this was a lifestyle store but it appears to have old signage.

This closing fits the mold of the others. There are 2 Albertsons stores within 2 miles of that Safeway.
