One is a lifestyle (Milwaukie) but I am pretty sure the other one isn't.

Re: 2 Portland area Safeway locations to close
These two closures are interesting.
The Milwaukie store, if memory serves me correctly, relocated from an old Marina store closer to downtown Milwaukie. There isn't a huge amount of competition close by on McLoughlin. There was an Albertsons which closed years ago and is now Grocery Outlet, and there is an older Fred Meyer store. Walmart I think opened one of the Neighborhood Market stores nearby though.
As for the one on 181st, there is an Albertsons just south of there at Glisan. Some people have raised concerns about stores abandoning NE Portland in recent years, A Fred Meyer, a few Albertsons, and at least one Safeway have closed, as well as a Target store. This to me seems more like a case of the two stores being close together, but is interesting in that the Albertsons store is being kept even though Safeway has the bigger presence in Portland. I am kinda surprised that this one didn't get dumped to Haggen.
