This isn't a huge surprise, but it looks like Big Lots is experimenting with a format that is strictly 'Home' categories. It does seem for like the last several years furniture and home items have taken priority to other departments in the store.

Interesting...had a conversation with a Big Lots store manager in an neighboring town who said that things were quite regionalized within the metro Detroit area---they operated a "Macomb/
East region as opposed to the Livonia/Oakland/West region. Shopping on the border of the two regions, the stores feel somewhat different---Macomb/East is way more careful about expiration dates, for instance, and the staffing feels more robust (stores are cleaner/tidier (even though they are pretty much the same vintage/type of 24k sqft old supermarkets)). This is on the Macomb/East side of town.
