9 am Monday November 6, WinCo Foods will be opening in Roseburg, Oregon.
The store is directly behind an Albertsons, near Walmart, and shares a parking lot with a local independent that looks like a copycat take on the format.

Interesting to note that the WinCo appears to be an old Kmart site, but also looks like the Kmart was torn down and this is a new build. Kinda curious what direction they take the layout of the store with the newer interior designs.

Can confirm, Kmart was torn down and a new store built in its place. The Kmart was an old, tired building, not worth trying to remodel it into what Winco wants.Super S wrote: ↑October 25th, 2023, 1:38 pmSherm’s Thunderbird also runs stores in Medford and Klamath Falls, including the Food4Less in Medford. Their stores are Winco-esque, and it’s the closest they had in Roseburg and Klamath Falls.

Re: New WinCo Foods opening November - 140th modern store
WinCo did move in to the existing Kmart building in Ontario for a "Waremart by WinCo" store. I always thought this was a strange move when you consider the age and limitations of an old Kmart building (especially given that Kmart lacked refrigeration equipment)...perhaps WinCo found it to be more effective to build from the ground up to their specifications.bryceleinan wrote: ↑October 27th, 2023, 6:54 am

Medford Winco is an old Kmart building. Kmart closed in the early 90s.
Thunderbird also owns the Food 4 Less in Medford.
Thunderbird in Roseburg is a former Food Giant (Zupans). Very strong operator. They've held up against Winco in Medford. They still have Klamath Falls to themselves for the discount format.

I bet the Albertsons in Roseburg is getting divested, assuming they manage to complete the merger.
Both Albertsons and Safeway seem to be strong there.

They may have been strong before, but the $1.5-$2 million a week of sales that WinCo is going to do are going to come from multiple someones... big chunk from Wal Mart and Fred Meyer.retailfanmitchell019 wrote: ↑October 27th, 2023, 11:46 pmI bet the Albertsons in Roseburg is getting divested, assuming they manage to complete the merger.

Albertsons/Safeway still run lower volume stores in Roseburg than Fred Meyer, Wal Mart Supercenter, or Sherms Thunderbird. A $150k week sales hit to one of their stores will be a much more major blow than it would be for the others 3 who already run higher volume stores.

I know the Costco in Roseburg is one of the busier locations, given that it is the closest Costco to the Southern Oregon Coast, on top of the radius surrounding Roseburg. WinCo will see a lot of traffic from the Coos Bay area too.storewanderer wrote: ↑October 28th, 2023, 1:18 pmThey may have been strong before, but the $1.5-$2 million a week of sales that WinCo is going to do are going to come from multiple someones... big chunk from Wal Mart and Fred Meyer.retailfanmitchell019 wrote: ↑October 27th, 2023, 11:46 pmI bet the Albertsons in Roseburg is getting divested, assuming they manage to complete the merger.
