From Supermarket News, I found this:

Key Food, with 225 stores located primarily in New York’s outer boroughs, last month was a surprise winner in bidding for four Food Emporium locations in Manhattan: sites at 3rd Avenue and 68th Street; Union Square; 8th Avenue and 50th Street; and 10th Avenue and 42nd Street.

The proposed agreement includes a license allowing Key Food to use the Food Emporium banner and signage in stores through the end of the year.

So it looks like they can use it for now, probably hoping the decision on their bid will be made before 12/31, and assuming they get it then no changes will be needed (unless they want to rebrand existing Key locations to the Food Emporium brand).

That's cool, nice to see one of the A&P brands carrying on. Too bad the others couldn't be saved (but some of them had such bad reputations, even back in 2007, I always envisioned Pathmark to be running dirty or at the very least overpriced stores, and when I was in high school reading the library's Consumer Reports, it was usually Waldbaum's who came in dead last in their surveys.

And now it's posted (same site) that Key is buying the SUPERFRESH name for use on stores, which seems a bi odd given that name was only used farther south/west (PA/MD/DE and very southern NJ), nowhere in the Key Foods areas.

A rretailer cooperative Allegiance Retail Services LLC has acquired the Pathmark trademark and associated logos, domain, etc., as well as A&P's 'Greenway' brand.
