Smiths put large dozen eggs at 3.29 today and those eggs are from Utah.

Bigger shock is Reno Safeway put large dozen eggs at 3.29 also - they previously had them at 3.49. I am wondering if the 3.49 was an old tag and they just now updated. Or if they really did a price cut. Same eggs in NorCal proper are 5.29.

storewanderer wrote: February 6th, 2024, 11:36 pm Target just jumped the price to 3.99 for dozen white large eggs today in Reno.

WinCo has weird pricing at 3.96 for large but 3.22 for extra large... quantity limit of 1-2 and some ridiculous price posted after you reach limit.

Brown eggs are cheaper at both stores (3.10 at WinCo- out of stock; 2.59 at Target).
If that's the case then Winco jumped significantly. They had the limit one on both last week, but it was 2.14 for large and 2.97 for extra large with wacky prices around $7 and $9 respectively for additional quantities over the limit.

Instagram account with Costco deals showed NorCal stores selling some kind of blue-green eggs for organic option because there were no brown eggs last week. They had brown in SoCal.

I think we have taken this off topic but eggs are worth discussing in a separate thread as something screwy is going on with this pricing, especially if there is no real shortage in SoCal.
Stater Bros took large eggs to 4.49 today. Target was sold out at 3.99. Costco looked good at 3.99 for 2 dozen and location I visited wasn't limiting, but it's a lower volume warehouse.
Stater now $4.99 for a dozen large. $6.99 for a dozen jumbo. Shelf price yesterday at same store I checked last week.

Crazy. Walmart is $1.72. Target went up to $2.29.

Albertsons shelf tag has been high for awhile but they have perpetually been running coupons where I can get a dozen for $1 - $1.50 most weeks.

Something weird is going on. A couple of weeks ago Walmart was over $5. Today they're showing $2.12 on the app.

I raised the issue because I thought all of this sounded like speculative price gouging in SoCal because of supply issues in NorCal; stores "getting out in front of it" and raising the price.

Right now "price in app" for SW Riverside County stores dozen large eggs, store brand:
Walmart $2.12
Stater Bros $4.99
Albertsons $4.79
Target $3.19 (was $3.99 last week on shelf despite print ad)
Ralphs $4.49
Costco $3.99 for 24 couple days ago
Sam's $4.22 for 24, app says sold out (again)

Two Smiths here have different prices one is 3.29 and one is 3.99. Both have a Dozen Brown ST Eggs that are marked 3.49 but out of stock now.
Target is Dozen Large White 3.99 but has some Dozen Large Brown still 2.59 (still scanned that way tonight). These eggs show on the package they come from MO or something far away.
Safeway has price labels showing 3.49 but the app says 3.29, not sure what is going on with that. Since Target is a better deal I didn't try to buy there. That is in Reno. Cross over to CA (which Safeway drives the eggs past to get them to Reno) and it is 5.29.
Wal Mart and WinCo are both in the high 4.00's range for dozen white large. Wal Mart has some dozen brown marked at 3.58 that haven't been in stock for months.
