Thanksgiving - Turkey Prices

Post by Bluelightspecial »

I went to both a Kroger (Ralphs) and Albertsons (Vons) market for the first time in a while today due to a vacation. Neither had "special" holiday pricing for Turkey yet. Considering the outstanding potential merger I checked out their online pricing. For Safeway Norcal and Denver they had prices posted online for turkeys at .87lb. In socal at Vons & Albertsons the online price was $1.47 lb.... Ralphs (Kroger brand frozen) showed $1.89lb!. This is less than a mile from an Amazon Fresh store that is reopening next week and has frozen turkeys at .49 lb.... It's almost like Kroger and Albertsons aren't even trying anything other than to get this disaster merger through.

Raleys already drew a line on turkey and has a digital coupon for 0.47/lb limit 1 turkey and no minimum purchase required. So Safeway will match that in NorCal I expect and if they have a lot of turkey left the weekend before Thanksgiving I expect them to drop a .39/lb limit 1 digital coupon if past years are any indication. That is a clean and easy promotion on both fronts.

Save Mart put turkey on their ad and has these offers on the front page:
They usually did a Buy 1 Get 1 Free on turkey and that was their "best offer" so they were usually a compete joke. They are a little better this year I guess.
1. HALF PRICE TURKEY SALE. Honeysuckle White Whole Frozen Turkey Limit 4. With a $25 additional purchase. They don't show in the ad what their price per pound is. It is 1.69/lb.
2. SAVE MORE ON TURKEYS! With in-store yellow coupons (what the..). $10 off a Honeysuckle Frozen Turkey when you buy a Cook's Bone in Spiral Ham. Not sure what the price on that is as they didn't have any.
3. SAVE MORE ON TURKEYS! With in-store yellow coupon: $5 off any Frozen Butterball Turkey.
Now if you go to the back page they have more offers:
1. Jennie O/Butterball/Honeysuckle White Turkey Breast Buy 1 Get 1 Free (regular price not printed).
2. Cooks Spiral Sliced Ham, Honey, Brown Sugar Half Ham: 3.99/lb (not sure if this is the one you can buy from front page offer 2 above and save $10 on a half price turkey?)
3. Butterball Frozen Turkey 1.99/lb (I think this is the same item that is referenced in front page item 3 above)

Cutting off Instacart and click and collect customers?

I did see turkey on the Safeway/Albertsons Portland division ad -
$1.49/lb branded Butterball turkey breast
This year's pre-cooked holiday feast prices:
Image
From the monthly big book of savings -
Signature farms turkey breast $1.99/lb (um, more than the BRAND?!?)
Butterball turkey breast $2.99/lb (I guess before/after this week)
Butterball Boneless Turkey Breast Roast $15.49 (48 oz product)

No poultry (besides chicken) in intermountain ads yet.

Fred Meyer:
$1.49/lb with digital coupon, $1.99 without - turkey breast (no brand listed)
This year's pre-cooked holiday feast prices -
Image

QFC:
JennieO Turkey, $0.99/lb, $0.79/lb with digital coupon (limit 1)
Pumpkin (or other) pie, $3.99 8"
Same pre-cooked holiday feasts available as Fred Meyer.

Smiths (Idaho store):
Same pricing of pre-cooked as Fred Meyer, listed in Spanish and English. No mention of turkey anywhere.

Interesting, because the Albertsons stores in Louisiana and Texas (and I'm assuming Tom Thumb and Randalls) are doing a similar promotion, except the purchase is $75.

Also in Louisiana, Rouses is giving away an up to 14lb. Butterball with the purchase of a ham.

No others have announced yet; really all else we have here is Super 1 Foods from Brookshire Grocery, and they don't do those type of promotions.

Weekly ads fresh from the gutter out front. This is only what's in the ad and I'm assuming they're all in effect this Wednesday-ish.

Aldi - Butterball whole frozen turkey, $1.07 lb.
Aldi - Honeysuckle whole frozen turkey, 77¢ lb.
Aldi - notable "$47 Turkey day feast for 10" ad list

Ralphs - Kroger frozen turkey, 79¢ lb with additional $25 purchase

Amazon Fresh - Butterball premium frozen young turkey, 49¢ lb, ad also has a $10 off $50 coupon

Albertsons-Vons - Butterball whole frozen turkey, $1.47 lb with digital coupon limit 1 per customer
Albertsons-Vons - Signature Farms whole frozen turkey 59¢ lb with $25 minimum purchase

Stater Bros - Honeysuckle or Jennie-O whole frozen turkey 69¢ lb. with an additional $25 purchase
Stater Bros - Butterball premium frozen turkey $1.79 lb
Stater Bros - Fresh All Natural Honeysuckle Young turkey $1.99 lb, won't be in store until Sat Nov 16

There seems to be a different definition of the weight of a "young" turkey, Amazon says that's 8-16 lbs, Stater Bros says it's 12-20 lbs. This lets the air out of the tires on that Amazon price that is the best for Butterball as it's a pretty small bird.
