Stopped in an interesting store in Edmond, OK (northern suburb of Oklahoma City----sprawls to the horizon in every direction). Laid out a bit like a Wegmans (as you enter to the left are extensive fresh departments---bakery--cheese--produce--etc, then through a couple of doorways are the dry groceries, meat is along the rear of the store (didn't notice but think they had both service and prepack). They had a light selection of AWG private label (but, unusually for an upscale store, a fair bit of "low price" shelf-tagging). Very upscale-feeling and quite broadly merchandised with gourmet and specialty. Interesting wire shelf-fencing which gave a really finished yet open feel to the aisles. Had never noticed it before but it made the store look really sharp.
The kind of store OKC (and Tulsa) have been asking for---back in the day Albertsons' was the best Tulsa had, certainly.
Also saw a grand-opening Homeland in NW Edmond---quite attractive store to drive by. It seems AWG has a template of designs (upscale subtle--Hen House; upscale showy--this store, mid-range--Price Chopper/Reasors/Homeland) that they re-use throughout their territory.
