Re: Wonder Bread's New Snack Cake Line
Ingredient list on these products is a real appetite killer for me...
They've gotten shelf lives extended on these items to the point that there is probably room in this space for additional brands.
What is strange is Flowers Foods who owns Wonder runs Tastycake products at their "bread outlet" locations. I always assumed they owned Tastycake but that isn't the case?

Re: Wonder Bread's New Snack Cake Line
Flowers owns Tastykake-which seems to me has more “unique” snack cakes than what Hostess and Little Debbie offer.

Re: Wonder Bread's New Snack Cake Line
So what is the point of doing this Wonder label in this category if they already have Tastycake?

Different brands, different markets, different price levels (Flowers also owns Mrs. Freshley’s)
Little Debbie owner McKee Foods does the same thing. Also makes Drake’s Cakes and Sunbelt Bakery products.

Perhaps also going on the known Wonder name, thinking that will help get people to buy the items? Not sure if Tastykake is something that has been out there all over the country or not?storewanderer wrote: ↑January 25th, 2025, 12:51 amSo what is the point of doing this Wonder label in this category if they already have Tastycake?

Walmart in Phoenix sells Tastykakes, along with a mass assortment of Little Debbie products.

Re: Wonder Bread's New Snack Cake Line
It depends on the region, but I have not seen much Tastykake product at my local Walmart stores. Hostess and Little Debbie are dominant. Save Mart and Lucky seem to carry more varieties of Tastykake.
Hostess and Little Debbie seem to be more popular in Northern California. Wonderbread does not seem to be a trusted brand. It is viewed as a sort of junk food brand of bread.
Wonder will have a hard time trying to sell this stuff.

Re: Wonder Bread's New Snack Cake Line
Save Mart moved its private label bread contract over to Flowers Foods some time ago (the plant is in Modesto) which was a very helpful thing as that plant was not moving much product at the time. So they tend to bring a lot of their other items into Save Mart as a result of that.Alpha8472 wrote: ↑January 26th, 2025, 9:47 pm It depends on the region, but I have not seen much Tastykake product at my local Walmart stores. That Flowers Plant is also running a small lot of private label Kroger and PS Bread for these Reno Smiths locations as of a few months ago. The FoodsCos in NorCal still get their private label bread from Ralphs plant.
