Retro Interiors

Post by jalberni »

I found a Yelp Page on this old Ralphs in Bellflower that had an old interior with their old slogan "Lower Prices, Higher Standards". This is one of very few stores I've found with this interior online. It's the most intruiging to me. Does anyone know what other locations had this interior? It's hard to come across now. Store is an Aldi now.

Also, what other retro interiors appealed to you? I know very few stores in Orange County (Some Stater Bros. still do), but stores are consistently being remodeled. What else is there?

There is a Nob Hill Foods in Livermore, California with the 2000 era Ralphs decor still perfectly preserved.

Our new build (2005) Kroger had this interior (script) in Tennessee. It was prevalent in the ATL division for a while until Bountiful took over. It originated at Ralph’s though so I’m sure somebody with more knowledge will chime in.

The Ralphs on 160 N Lake Ave in Ave in Pasadena still has this interior package. It has the same exact exterior as the Bellflower store mentioned in the first post.

It's interesting because there are several sections of the store that have the Ralphs logo with "1873-2007" underneath it which I'm assuming that 2007 was the year it received that decor package, which is clearly showing it's age.

I always wondered why they haven't remodeled this store, while the other two Ralphs in the area have received at least 3 remodels in the past 15 years. I'm assuming this store will most likely close as soon as the lease is up.

Way to make me nostalgic for the Fred Meyer decor before they all got hit with the relative uniformity of "Kroger Marketplace" (except the Burlingame store).
Image This is the Redmond, WA location, which opened as "Northwest Best" alongside a few rebranded former Marketplace locations (note the wood shelving like endcap displays, aisle and department lettering). The rebuilt Interstate and Lombard store in Portland had this same setup but was not signed 'Northwest Best.'

I'm missing the Stadium Fred Meyer, when it had a similar decor to the aforementioned Ralph's Fresh Fare, though now images online seem to be gone. Yelp "Fred Meyer" listings are junked up with a bunch of useless photos of Dora the Explorer and other toys and ladies apparel now.

Both the Ralphs at South and Carmenita in Cerritos and the Ralphs at El Toro and I-5 in Lake Forest ('07 build) had the Script decor when I visit them within the past year. I'm not sure if either of these stores were remodeled since. Both these also have that signage with the "1873-2007" timeline on it. It very odd they would include that at least without a way to change the year.

The Pasadena Ralphs is in a great location, however, I imagine that store is definitely a redevelopment candidate, and likely this means Kroger doesn't want to invest too much into it due to that factor, and that there are other stores nearby.

You might be right! That entire block has mostly been developed in the past 10 years (condos/apartments/office buildings). The Ralphs does kind of stick out like sore thumb. Plus there always seems to be police activity every I shop, or someone causing a scene, shoplifting, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kroger closes the store at the end of the lease...which might explain why it's still stuck in 2007  .
