Changes coming to Missouri Flat Village in Placerville

Post by FrankMoore99 »

One of my local shopping centers in Placerville, Missouri Flat Village with Safeway and TJ Maxx has recently lost or is losing three prominent tenants. GameStop, Jamba Juice, and UPS Store. Tenants that seem like they are still popular. They recently lost European Wax Center a few months back. But they are adding an Xfinity Store it appears. What is going on with the center?? What changes are they looking to make?? Why did these three places close??
Was GameStop originally an EB Games when it opened??

Game Stop has been churning locations for years. I assume Jamba is a franchise so who knows what is going on. UPS Store of course is also a franchise though I don't see as many of those closing anymore as I once did, I suppose some still close.

That is a very very busy shopping center (until WinCo figures out how to get a store out in Placerville, they really need to figure it out).

This is a very interesting lease plan. It still lists Jamba Juice as being on the lease plan. Have they not taken it off yet or are there plans to remodel and reopen?? Just interesting. https://gallellire.com/property/missouri-flat-village/

The Folsom GameStop has their hours listed as all being closed. Did they pull out of Folsom and redirect their customers to Rancho Cordova and Citrus Heights?? What does this say about the future of retail in Folsom or Placerville?? https://www.gamestop.com/store/us/ca/fo ... e-gamestop

I think Game Stop has a store closure program going. Not sure of the details. These outlying stores just don't do much sales.

I notice the Game Stop in the mall in Reno is closed sometimes when I walk by it. I guess they only have one employee and close for break. This store is small but goes way back in this type of a format. It was once a "Walden Software" Store. Then Electronics Boutique. At one time when physical hardware and consoles for video games were more popular, there was a second, somewhat larger EB location within the mall too, but that is long closed.

But it is interesting that GameStop still operates their Rancho Cordova store and their Davis and Woodland stores even though they are similar sized markets. And they operate in even smaller markets in the Appalachian area of Kentucky. And in Elko. But they closed all their locations in the Central Colorado Rockies (Glenwood Springs, Avon, Montrose) and have consolidated to Grand Junction and Denver, similar to Office Depot and Staples in that region. Are they different demographics. Not Democratic leadership in these areas and expensive rents driving out these places?? Weird because Placerville is a conservative area and Davis is a very liberal area. But it is in California.

I think it comes down to store performance and lease expiration. They seem to be exiting locations as leases expire. Those central CO areas may have been difficult to staff and I don't think have the right demographic.

The Placerville closure surprises me a little. I am wondering if Target opening in Placerville maybe took just enough sales away that it made Game Stop no longer viable.

Elko has a lot of young families due to the mining industry jobs there. That should be a very productive location.

It's official, Folsom's GameStop has closed: https://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/ ... dates.html.
What killed this one??
In a town that has a Barnes and Noble, a Best Buy, Sam's Club, Costco, and even a large record store, the Cave.
Does this mean more for GameStop or more for Folsom?? Realizing it is not 2011 anymore and people may not be going to GameStop for all their video games. I haven't bought a new video game since 2012 and still use the Wii to play video games.
