Off-topic, but I think that Grocery Outlet's current TV campaign is as cringe-worthy as the clips in this thread. Especially the Grocery Outlet ad with the mermaid. It really makes you wonder if terrible ad campaigns do more harm than good.

Maybe they're subscribing to the theory that any publicity is good publicity. Mind you, I know nothing about this chain but here we are a bunch of retail buffs talking about it. Maybe that's what they're after.

I realized what those vintage Save Mart commercials reminded me of -
(notice how "People in Your Neighborhood" is just the background music)
Harmons has further transitioned from this style of ad as well, these are old. I do remember the "Harmons!" tag at the end of many of their ads over the years.
Maybe it was an industry thing from an independent grocers convention a few years back to license and use that song.

Like Kroger using the “Fresh and Exciting” song that Albertsons used in its SoCal stores about a decade ago?

Jewel, Acme, and Shaw's (and possibly Cub) used that song too.
