Most Food City stores were originally Bashas’ stores, like the one in downtown Casa Grande and E. McDowell in Phoenix.
I think the chain lost its way after the death of Eddie Basha- who was prominent in the stores TV and radio ads. And it would have been a better fit if Bashas’ was bought by Stater Bros.-similar size stores, same competition, retail areas next to each other.
