There is also a frequent shortage of men's pants with 28-to-30-inch waists and long inseams (32 to 34 ").

Re: Potential multiple takeover bids for Kohl's
CNBC is discussing today the new direction Kohl's says they're going in. They said they are basically leaving the department store category and trying to change into something completely unique. A store basically specializing in athletic apparel, such as sneakers, hoodies and leggings. And a bunch of Sephora store within a store setups.
Please help me understand how this is unique.
Has the CEO ever visited Dick's Sporting Goods? Or Target or Walmart or any shopping center these days? All you see are hoodies, sneakers and leggings either of higher quality than what Kohl's sells and/or at better prices than Kohl's charges. They're not going to be the best in any way shape or form in these categories.
This clearly is not going to go well.

This sounds great. Until Nike pulls out of Kohls (wait for additional expansion of Dick's near Kohls Stores).ClownLoach wrote: ↑March 7th, 2022, 12:13 pm CNBC is discussing today the new direction Kohl's says they're going in. I commend this move by Kohls. They have essentially killed off their home business, and are well on their way to doing the final kill to the women's, men's, and kid's clothing business as well. When you are an ineffective retailer, why tie up dollars in merchandise that is barely moving and you just have to handle multiple times to move around, put the latest clearance tag on, etc.? Not to mention dealing with product returns.
I think it is a great idea to turn into a leisure focused store focusing on leisure clothing. They are doing so poorly in other product categories why not just stop the embarrassment now and cut them out. If Sears had done this to their long struggling softlines division 25 years ago, they may still be around as a strong hardlines only retailer. The other great thing is the way this falls in line with their store downsizing idea. They will even be able to take that a step further and downsize to an approximately 12,000 square foot space. That assumes they continue to take Amazon returns, if not they can go down to perhaps a 9,000 square foot space. The other great part about this is they can reduce labor, lighting, heating, and other costs with this new even smaller store model.
Great ideas all right, for a business that wants to behave suicidal.
Not entirely sure why Sephora wants to be inside a store that is walking most of its customers off and has terrible merchandising but then again this is exactly what they walked into at JC Penney too. Maybe Sephora should just focus on freestanding stores.

Re: Potential multiple takeover bids for Kohl's
So far all the new Sephora at Kohl's locations I've seen are head to head with Ulta Beauty either next door or on an opposite corner. It is pretty well known that Ulta surpassed Sephora with the same off mall strategy. So Sephora is really late to the game and opening with a deteriorating partner like Kohl's isn't a good look for them as they wanted to be the more upscale choice vs. Ulta. (And yes I have not forgotten about their former presence at JCP - they still felt malls were more upscale and didn't do every store but only in malls where they otherwise wouldn't/couldn't put a full line store)storewanderer wrote: ↑March 7th, 2022, 8:12 pmThis sounds great. Re: Potential multiple takeover bids for Kohl's
No. A smaller selection than the Costco clothing department, with lower quality, and much higher prices. But you can put it on your Kohl's Card and only pay 28.99% APR financing, and if you buy in the next 2 hours and 37 minutes you can get a Kohl's Cash certificate that can be used to save $3.14 on all merchandise on the 5th Wednesday of the month except for 31,257 "selected" SKUs including anything with a brand you have heard of. Why aren't you getting in your car and racing to Kohl's right now? They can still sign you up for that new Kohl's card at any register and you might get approved for up to $400 in instant credit!*babs wrote: ↑March 7th, 2022, 7:32 pmSo basically turn it into the Costco clothing department with higher prices???ClownLoach wrote: ↑March 7th, 2022, 12:13 pm CNBC is discussing today the new direction Kohl's says they're going in. *Note - Kohl's National Bank is not responsible for the damage that will very likely happen to your overall FICO credit score if you charge so much as a pair of socks on the Kohl's card which due to our Scrooge McDuck approved tiny credit limits will push the card to a high debt utilization rate immediately, causing your score to crash at least 60 points in a day and all your other banks to slash your credit limits by tens of thousands of dollars overnight plus raise your interest rate to just a point under the current rate at Al's Loan Shark And Pawn Store, A Professional Corporation.

Sounds like the Wall Street crowd has no confidence in this preposterous repositioning of the brand.

Re: Potential multiple takeover bids for Kohl's
I think Amazon could purchase Kohls and convert them into pick up, return and distribution centers while carrying a small amount of inventory and be successful. These stores could turn around and potentially sell the returned merchandise for a smaller markdown and avoid a lot of the distribution channel issues that are arising, plus cut down on shipment and packaging costs.
My last visit to Kohls proved to be uneventful. The stores seem to have less merchandise that has gone down considerably in quality.

My curse in mainstream retail... Big and Tall sections are a joke... it's more like Big OR Tall. You're not allowed to be both.
