I liked GreenWise quite a bit better than the usual Publix. It is interesting they are expanding it again, and it will be interesting to see how they tinker it now vs. the ten years old model.

Publix GreenWise Market is Publix's answer to specialty organic grocers Whole Foods Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Earth Fare. Seeing specialty organic grocers expand across the southeastern United States, it may be a good time for Publix to reinvent Publix GreenWise Market.

Publix will need to differentiate Publix GreenWise Market from other specialty organic grocery retailers. It has the advantage and the opportunity to expand Publix Pharmacy into existing and future locations. Customers wanting to eat and live healthy would like to have organic foods and products and pharmacy service in centralized locations.

Publix GreenWise Market cannot limit its locations to only Florida.

This would be a far-fetched situation, but if Albertsons does acquire Sprouts (which in my opinion is highly unlikely despite recent media rumors), could Publix possibly use the Greenwise format to expand into new markets by acquisition of stores which are required to be divested?

Much like HEB has done with their Central Market stores in DFW, the Greenwise format could likely be successful even in markets where Publix is lesser known, particularly DC. Although the traditional grocery market is extremely competitive in the DC area, the natural/organic market is still up for the taking, especially considering Whole Foods' ongoing pricing and image issues.

Sorry, Publix going into Louisiana and/or Texas anytime soon just isn't happening. Publix rarely acquires via acquisitions (Albertsons, BI-LO, Martin's) and they certainly won't take castoffs. They tend to expand, well, organically.

I think it is possible for Publix to expand Publix GreenWise Market to new markets. I would project more Publix stores over Publix GreenWise Market stores.

I agree Louisiana and Texas are not in Publix's immediate plans. Expansion into western Tennesssee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Arkansas is more likely.

Could Publix be in position to acquire a select quantity of quality stores from another supermarket participant?
