Marsh stops rent payments on six stores

Reminds me of Farmer Jack in Detroit - and we all know how that turned out...

I'm surprised they've lasted this long. They were beginning to struggle when the Marsh family was still in the picture and that was over 10 years ago. According to the article, they're also stiffing contractors who did recent renovations.

This isn't looking good, and I'd suspect SuperValu isn't too happy about this either.

If Marsh does go under, who's the likely candidate that can take over? Jewel-Osco? (I suppose it's possible, given that they do have single stores in Bloomington IL and Moline IL, the latter on the Iowa border)

Or can SuperValu buy them for a song and try to run them?

I wonder if Giant Eagle would be interested. in addition to Indianapolis they would have a presence in Cincinnati

Isn't Giant Eagle itself scaling back?

They have a store in Hamilton and one in the outer suburbs of Cincinnati. They used to have much more representation in SW Ohio, but never very many stores near Cinti. I'm guessing the general level of neglect under the current ownership would make the chain unattractive to Giant Eagle or any other established chain.

Why don't they just get it over and file for bankruptcy? They they can get rid of the dogs so they can focus on the better stores moving forward or at least be in better shape to sell them.

That's probably the next step.

Looks like the end is near. Vendors are demanding COD terms and HQ staff is being slashed.
