Village Market closing Incline Village, NV

Post by storewanderer »

This was always a somewhat interesting store. Store never had much traffic but is in a shopping center with the post office so the shopping center is quite busy during the week, quiet on weekends (most there have to physically go to the post office to pick up their mail).

It ran with a Big T affiliation/Fleming in the 90's. Back then it had pharmacy and meat/deli departments, both leased out to third parties. Meat/deli was always the high point of the store to me. Liquor was run by the store and focused on specialty wines/limited run wines. When Fleming collapsed, it switched to Unified and has used Unified since and never did much in the way of promotions- a dozen specials every week.

At some point the pharmacy moved out and a bakery/coffee/cafe type business leased that corner of the store and has been there ever since.

So the store is closing- the stated reason- the labor shortage. It sounds like whoever was running meat pulled out and they could not find a replacement. So the solution is to retire/close the store.

Will be interesting to see what comes of this building. Back when Fresh & Easy was scouting locations in this market, there were rumors they were in contract to take over this store's space.

There’s some permitting going on in Accela for a new “specialty grocer” in Incline Village off Tahoe Blvd… one of the listed addresses is a Natural Grocers in Colorado, so I’m thinking they’re on the way to Incline.

That will be interesting to see how it does. Natural Grocers has nothing prep in store so they require little labor to run the store. They run some of the lowest volume stores I've ever seen and seem to survive. Probably a good fit for the location.

Looks like Natural Grocers wants a different location and involves demolition.

Good luck to them.

They'd be wise to run for the existing Village Market building.
