Like the appropriately named “Conn’s”
I haven't heard much negative about Conn's.

Ashley on the other hand (in Reno anyway...)... yikes. Trying to get the store to honor a website price is a very interesting experience, I guess the markdown comes out of the salesperson's commission or something. Then when they hand you off to whoever takes one for the team and writes up the order with a price match watch what they actually charge your credit card because it may not be what you just agreed to...

Best to go into these places with a t-shirt (preferably a beat up one), shorts, and unkempt hair. It is amazing how they just leave me alone. Talk about a great thing to buy online...

Independent shops that haggle on price can be fun. Some of them will also deliver same day.

The last remaining Kmart in Puerto Rico will be closing at the end of the month.

Only 8 stores left now: Miami, that one in the Hamptons, Westwood NJ, 4 in the Virgin Islands, and one in Guam.
Just get it over with and rebrand the stores to Sears. Even Walmart would be an improvement. And I'm not a Walmart guy.

Which will disappear first? Kmart or Albertsons Companies? The race to the bottom is on!

Recent photos of Guam continue to show a fully stocked store......... oddly stocked, but fully stocked.

They still have receipt paper, sale sign printer paper stock, blue shelf labels, Kmart employee t-shirts, and bags to go through. Eventually they will get through with it all and shut down. I think FL is the last place they can use the bags so that may cause some additional delays.

News from the Miami Kmart. I guess they are doing a closeout sale of all clothing for the next couple weeks. They have also walled off the store into one piece of about 75,000 square feet (which they are closing out) and that piece will turn into At Home.

Then there is another piece of the store that is 25,000 square feet (they had previously blocked this space off with shelves), including the former garden center. They are moving Kmart into that 25,000 square foot space. It is unclear what the extent of the renovation work occurring to that space is at this time. The garden center will be the new entrance for Kmart. They have purchased two new "Kmart" signs to hang on that part of the building. This absolutely represents the largest capital expenditure Eddie has gone for with Kmart in many years.

I guess when you do no volume and have almost no inventory so what if it is 25k square feet or 100k square feet.

Rumor is their lease agreement requires them to operate Kmart in the building, but does not require Kmart to occupy the whole building. Again that is rumor.

Nice to see Kmart Miami will be in business for years to come (????????).

Looks like Seritage is selling off the remainder of this properties. I, however, am not sure if this will affect the remaining Sears/Kmart stores directly.

I think Seritage no longer leases anything to Sears/Kmart current operations (or dark stores Sears/Kmart continues to pay rent on).

Seems like Transformco has tried to be similar to Seritage by handling redevelopment/reassigning leases on its own for this last batch of stores. In the Miami photos there is a Transformco banner posted up about the At Home/downsized Kmart. Transformco was also proud to have gotten the Grass Valley Kmart shifted to Target last year (though I think that was more of the efforts of the shopping center owner than anyone else who really wanted Kmart and its very long term lease out).

Local TV news business brief reports - Sears finally exits bankruptcy. Hilariously "this is not clear if Sears plans to add more stores..."

Archive link. If Lampert had wanted to save Sears, he could've. Stopped doing things that were obviously wrong, put in people that were experienced and could right the ship, and not stripping apart the company until there was nothing to work with.

Buying out Safeway 2006-ish could've been a brilliant move and really got Kmart back into food again, while spending money to replace most of the Kmart stores. There were lots and lots of opportunities, but unfortunately, they were squandered time and time again.
