Nob Hill Foods in Walnut Creek Is Closing

Post by Alpha8472 »

This store has not been remodeled since the 70s or 80s. It has vintage old fashioned coffin refrigerators and no refrigerator doors. The vintage shopping carts are silver metal and are super high.

The store is empty most of the time due to the huge new Safeway and Whole Foods that opened practically across the street a few years ago. The store reduced hours to close at 9 PM years ago.

The store that has been frozen in time will close in March. It is sad, as you can find some gourmet items that no one else seems to carry.

Unfortunate they never spent any money on the store because it doesn't look like a bad store, just very outdated. Walnut Creek strikes me as a funny store to give up based on the location but the store condition obviously was not matching the product mix or pricing.

The carts are standard Raleys carts. Those are because of the cashier unload checkstands Raleys typically uses, so the cashier does not have to bend down into a deep cart as they are scanning merchandise. Those carts also make the cashier unload checkout process faster due to the cashier not having to dig stuff down from the bottom of a deep cart.

Another win for Safeway...
