Looks like the employees at Stater can rest easy, assuming the vote for the contract is successful.CalItalian wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2022, 10:09 pm Talks Ongoing Between SoCal Grocers, Workers

I wonder why the other chains won't just take and agree to/offer to their membership whatever Stater has agreed to... wonder what the sticking point is.

Also, what hasn't been discussed on this board is that Kroger has another dilemma that Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions and Stater Bros. don't have to worry about. The Food4Less bargaining agreement has a "me too" clause that if Ralphs employees receive a higher rate increase in 2022 and/or 2023, the F4L increases will match the higher Ralphs increases. Current F4L agreement includes a .55c wage increase at top rate. So, if Ralphs goes above that, F4L employees receive a higher increase as well.CalItalian wrote: ↑April 4th, 2022, 2:39 amWagesstorewanderer wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2022, 8:37 pmLooks like the employees at Stater can rest easy, assuming the vote for the contract is successful.CalItalian wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2022, 10:09 pm Talks Ongoing Between SoCal Grocers, Workers

Make sense why Kroger is holding to no more than a .60c per hour wage increase. as that also affects the economics of the F4L deal they agreed to.
Although not discussed much on here, the health care and pension trust funds make-up a big portion of the labor cost component - and that also has to be negotiated. So, we can pretty much assume that Stater Bros. has signed a "me-too" clause that whatever Ralphs and Albertsons have negotiated for increases to the hourly rate paid into the funds, Stater Bros. has likely agreed to go along with whatever the new (higher) rate will be - and there will be an increase to the hourly rate paid by the employers. The pension fund has needed financial help for many years in terms of being severely underfunded.
So until we see some kind of term sheet that is being presented to the employees of Stater Bros., it's hard to figure out what was agreed to in terms of wage increases. The union and Stater Bros. surely had a number in mind, and I can assure you Stater Bros. employees are not receiving $5.00 an hour wage increase over the term of the agreement.
If there is a strike, will the unions go on strike at all locations for both Ralphs and Albertsons, or strike selected stores as what the UFCW did with King Soopers in Colorado? Where it becomes sticky is that you have seven union locals in southern California and one union local in Colorado. Which local union selects which stores to strike?
Have you seen recent replacement workers at your local store, whether it is Ralphs, Albertsons, Pavilions and/or Vons?
Kroger has been consistent in it's messaging to it's Ralphs employees:
"We need to balance our investments in you so we can maintain a sustainable business, reflecting good, stable jobs, and keeping groceries affordable for our customers."
Sounds like the F4L deal is causing heartburn for Kroger at the negotiating table.

Negotiations went on for more than 24 hours straight from Sunday into Monday. Some progress was made but not on wages. They'll be going round the clock through tomorrow.

That was fast- I guess Stater reaching an agreement pushed these others to stop clowning around.CalItalian wrote: ↑April 4th, 2022, 6:43 pm Strike Averted: Grocery store workers reach tentative agreement with Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions

Re: Southern California UFCW Contract Expiring 3/6/22
It was 36 hours of near non-stop negotiations. There would have been a strike this weekend if a deal had not been reached by tomorrow. I think the article says 30 hours but that is not correct. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/ ... -pavilionsstorewanderer wrote: ↑April 4th, 2022, 9:01 pmThat was fast- I guess Stater reaching an agreement pushed these others to stop clowning around.CalItalian wrote: ↑April 4th, 2022, 6:43 pm Strike Averted: Grocery store workers reach tentative agreement with Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions
