A leaked email from a mid-level executive at American Franchise Capital (which owns about 100 Applebee's and Taco Bell restaurants in the Midwestern US) suggesting that the labor market will "turn in their favor" and allow them to pay lower wages to employees has triggered a major backlash on Reddit and has resulted in several restaurant managers resigning in protest, forcing the temporary closure of at least one restaurant. AFC has disavowed the leaked memo, claiming that its author has no authority to make hiring decisions.

Methinks someone's paycheck will soon drop to zero, if it hasn't already done so.

I believe this attitude was very common during summer 2021 as many understaffed service industry businesses were waiting for the COVID-related extended unemployment benefits to run out. It was the excuse for why so many fast food places were still "drive through only" and/or operating under reduced hours.
And to this day many of those same fast food places are still drive through only and/or operating under reduced hours. One excuse after another. Pay enough of a wage and you'll get employees.

Can't see it going anywhere worse than the food at Applebees.
