In some ways this isn't surprising. Kroger's food processing divisions have sold to competitors for ages--it's probably the reason that they are the last of the large chains to have sizable food processing operations of their own. Individual divisions often have had side businesses of sorts. Their Cleveland Division's bakery made products that were sold by competitors. I don't know if they ever did food service. OTOH, it was a sign of overcapacity and the decline of that division. The bakery still exists and is used by a regional baker.

Curious about the former Kroger bakery in Cleveland--any idea what it turned into?
