A new company called BrandX has bought the names of various regional department store chains including Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Goody’s, Herberger’s, Peebles, Stage Stores and Younkers.

BrandX is opening an online store under the name Bon Ton. Bon-Ton went out of business and closed its stores in 2018. It operated locations under the names Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers.

I wonder how long the new Carson's store will last if it actually opens.

As much as I would've liked to see The Bon-Ton et. al. stay around, for all intents & purposes it is dead and there's no reason to re-animate its corpse and make a new store unconnected from the old ones. Half the problem (figuratively, probably a much smaller percentage) with department stores today is it's saddled with the baggage of its name.

Another relaunch that will go nowhere. I mean, did any of these brands really have that loyal of a following? To me, at least the Bon Ton, just always felt like a generic department store. It didn't have the 'magic of Macy's' or the value-oriented vibe of Kohl's and JCPenney.

Didn't someone else reopen Carson's already? Some website?

I guess I didn't realize this name actually was somewhat sought after (or so some people seem to think).

Can't wait to see what these folks do when the name "Sears" becomes available.
