Another wise move by Schultz if implemented. Also good to see him bring the mental health crisis out there in the open, but that is off topic here so I will not comment further on that front. Still, this will be much appreciated by employees and customers for safety reasons as he points out.
I am sure non-customers will still be allowed to use the restrooms in many cases, but at least if this policy goes into place the employees have the right to deny non customers restroom use who are loitering/causing trouble. The current policy basically says there is zero restriction on the restrooms.
I also suspect they could make more locations have no public restroom at all (where that is legal at least). It would be nice if they would install a sink for hand washing outside the restrooms so at least customers could wash their hands if not allowed to use an employee only restroom.

Next I am sure we will see certain large cities pass a law that says any food establishment must have open restrooms for the public, even non customers, to get back at Schultz for actually putting the mental health situation on the discussion table. We will see if other restaurants fight that especially in large cities as no public restroom is very common in small/independent take away food places where the restroom is back behind the kitchen.
What a small number of homeless folks are doing in these bathrooms is a big problem. It only takes one person who does the wrong thing to ruin things for everyone when it comes to something like this. Between leaving needles inside, vandalizing the facilities, staying in the facilities for an unreasonable amount of time while other customers/employees are waiting to use them, and making a big mess in the stall, it is creating a situation that needs haz mat type handling. The typical Starbucks employee is not trained or provided the necessary equipment to be cleaning feces off the wall or dealing with needles that are a bio hazard. Nor is any other employee at any other public business. I have been in this type of situation in a tough store and having both restrooms vandalized (open packages stuffed in toilets) so they could not be used until someone came out for repair, which is a huge problem. It makes the vomit, feces on the walls, full rolls of toilet paper thrown into the toilet, and torn off sink handles seem like trivial problems.
Starbucks may again not allow restrooms to non customers

Re: Starbucks may again not allow restrooms to non customers
I think that lawmakers will soon realize that the public can and will recall them. If lawmakers keep passing awful laws such as allowing homeless people and drug addicts to use any restroom, the voters will recall them.
The recall in San Francisco of the D.A. has put fear into many politicians. The voters are striking back. The politicians are now afraid. They do not have free reign to pass unpopular legislation. The time of being too generous to the homeless, criminals, and drug addicts is coming to an end.
Voters need to be more vocal and tell these lawmakers that they are sick and tired of these absurd laws.
Restaurants will close down if they are magnets for homeless loitering. If restaurants close down, that is less tax money going to the cities. The politicians are paid by the taxes. The politicians work for the voters and taxpayers. They need to realize that they can be forced out of the job if they make the voters unhappy.
Businesses need to be successful for the city and politicians to make money.

So stop the homeless from using store restrooms.
Then refuse to build public restrooms.
Then arrest the homeless for relieving themselves in public.
And of course refuse to build housing for them and refuse to address the reasons as to why they are homeless.
Perhaps they should be rounded up and permanently incarcerated?
Just wondering....................................if that would stop the "generousity" we afford the homeless.

Re: Starbucks may again not allow restrooms to non customers
Some cities have opened public restrooms such as San Francisco. There are some that are 24 hours. There are also some subway stations in San Francisco with public restrooms that have attendants at all times that they are open. The attendants clean and make sure people are limited to a certain amount of time. It takes money, but providing public restrooms will keep the streets cleaner.
Cities should invest in more restrooms to take the burden off of private businesses.

I am positive the vast majority of the non-customers (just because someone is a non customer using a Starbucks restroom to shoot themself up, or vandalize it, does not automatically mean they are homeless either...) using Starbucks restrooms respect the facilities and do not do anything wrong. But it only takes one person (out of hundreds who use the restroom in a day) to cause serious, costly problems.veteran+ wrote: ↑June 12th, 2022, 1:00 pm So stop the homeless from using store restrooms.

What has to be stopped is the vandalism and other misbehavior in the restrooms and everyone should be held to the same rules, no matter who they are.
